History Of The Institute

Government Industrial Training Institute Udhampur (ITI) was established in August 1974 by the Skill Development Department (earlier Technical Education), Government of Jammu and Kashmir under the overall aegis of Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India New Delhi. At the beginning ITI Udhampur was started in rented building of and now ITI has its owned new Building near District Hospital Udhampur. The ITI has covered about 15 kanals of land . This Institute started with the four trades i.e. Electrician, Welder, Sewing Technology and Stenography & Secretarial Assistant (English). In the meantime two more trades namely COPA and Software Applications were sanctioned in 2005-06 by the Government taking the total strength of trades to six. Presently the Institute is running successfully Eleven Trades with Fourteen Units and with the introduction of Two more Trades under STRIVE; the strength of Trades would rise to Thirteen with Sixteen units in coming years.

The Institute is also running Training in Three trades under Self Financing Scheme. The Institute was covered under the Central Government schemes "Up gradation of 1396 ITIs under Public Private Partnership mode" in 2007-08 with the up gradation and introduction of new trades, "Skill Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE) in 2021 and Skill Hub Initiative under Prime Minister Koushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY 3.0) in January 2021 for providing Short Term Training in various NSQF level Job Roles. Moreover short term courses under Skill Development Initiative (SDI) scheme and Skill Development for the 8000 youths of Jammu and Kashmir (SDYJK-8000 Scheme), Inside/outside the state were also successfully trained in this Institute. The trainees after successfully passing the All India Trade Test (AITT) in NCVT trades are issued NCVT Certificates by the DGT, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Govt. of India While Candidates successfully passing the State Trade Test in SCVT Trades are issued SCVT Certificates by the Directorate of Skill Development Jammu & Kashmir. he Trainees who complete the short term courses are issued the National Proficiency Certificates by NCVT valid nationally as well as internationally. The maximum pass outs have been working in Govt. as well as Private sector besides some have started their own establishments. The institute involved not only in training activities but also performing successful activities such as motivation campaign, entrepreneurship campaign, campus interview, and cultural activities as well as sports activities.

Objectives

Institute will involve every youth of Udhampur whether School/college dropout or Unemployed to get them Skilled/up skilled/Re-skilled as per their areas of interest and create Entrepreneurship/Self-Reliant skills among youths so as to make them part of "Atmanirbhar Bharat" vision.
